Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Foraminotomy For Bone Stenosis

Minimally invasive cervical spine surgery at the Back Institute is optimal because it targets the exact problem. Surgeons at the Back Institute are able to do these minimally invasive procedures in the best way. (Removing the bone that is actually causing the problem.)

At the Back Institute, the focus is to do exactly what needs to be done for the patient and only that. Many centers do spine surgery in an exploratory manner cutting apart and removing normal, important parts of the spine just in order to open things up to see and explore. We strongly disagree with this approach.

These procedures are alternatives to major spine operations (Fusion, etc.)

  • Top doctors from elite universities come to the Back Institute as patients themselves, for their own spine treatment.

  • The procedures are performed by top spine surgeons with the highest credentials. Our surgeons are on staff at some of the best hospitals in the country.

  • The procedures are performed with specialized equipment to make the size of the skin opening the minimum that the patient needs.

  • Our surgeons are invited to participate in scientific conferences and have written over 40 peer reviewed publications.

  • The procedures are done in specialized spine treating facilities with the highest accreditations and certifications.
This patient had the procedure described here, removing the bony problem.

"I have been in pain almost 20 years. I feel better than I did anyday before surgery. I feel so much better."

Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Osteophyte
Removal/Foraminotomy:

is a spinal decompression surgery involving the disc and bony rim, which is pinching the nerve and/or spinal cord. Below are some spinal conditions that may be treated (this is not an all-inclusive list):

* Ankylosing spondylitis
* Degenerative disc disease
* Disc herniation/bulge with osteophyte
* Spinal stenosis (if caused by bone)
* Spondylosis (also known as spinal osteoarthritis))

Foraminotomy

Foraminotomy is an operation used to relieve pressure on nerves that are being compressed by bone in the intervertebral foramina, the passages through the bones of the vertebrae of the spine that pass nerve bundles to the body from the spinal cord.

A foraminotomy is performed to relieve the symptoms of nerve root compression in cases where the foramen is being compressed by bone or excessive ligament development and results in a pinched nerve.
